Zimbabwe inflation slows to 3.63 percent in August

The annual inflation continued on the down trend after dropping to 3.6% in August from 3.9% in July to 3.63% in August, a 30 basis point drop.

On a month-on-month basis inflation was at -0.18% from 0.23%.

The major contributor to annual inflation was Food and Non Alcoholic beverages inflation which is prone to transitory shocks at 4.20 percent whilst Non-food inflation stood at 3.38 percent.  

With Food and non alcoholic beverages  having  a weighting of 31.93% and non Food at 68.07% we can see that Food and non alcoholic contributed much in the period under review.

In the non-food category, Clothing and Foot wear contributed the most to the decline after shedding 49 basis points on a month to month basis and 10 basis points on a year to year basis. The month on month Food and Non Alcoholic Beverages inflation stood at -0.11 percent in August 2012 shedding 0.09 percentage points on the July 2012 rate of -0.02 percent.

The month on month non-food inflation stood at -0.21 percent, shedding 0.54 percentage points on the July 2012 rate of 0.33 percent.
