Visiting IMF team ends mission

The visiting International Monetary Fund (IMF) team has concluded its fact finding mission on Zimbabwe, which might lead to restoration of ties with the government.

The IMF team which concluded its findings on macro-economic performance on Tuesday is expected to present its recommendations to the institution's board of directors.

Official sources from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development  told the ZBC News that the team held meetings with captains of industry and commerce as well as government officials and reviewed its staff monitored programme that is expected to result in the restoration of financial support.

Under the programme, government has reiterated its commitment to coming up with a debt reduction strategy, while also focusing on increasing business confidence.

The government will also be establishing a Sovereign Wealth Fund to raise capital from the mining or resources sector to offset external debts.

The IMF's findings are expected to be released by the end of this week and are expected to set the tone for closer ties with Zimbabwe.
