Zimbabwe Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister, Walter Mzembi has expressed optimism that Zimbabwe's bid to host the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) conference in 2013 will succeed with the support of Brazil, ZBC News reported on Friday.
Mzembi made the remarks at a ceremony to launch 'Destination Zimbabwe - A World of Wonders' tourism brand in Brasilia, the capital city of Brazil.
In his keynote address, Minister Mzembi expressed optimism that the 2009 Memorandum of Understanding to promote, develop and enhance tourism relations for the mutual benefit of the two countries is now coming to fruition.
Other speakers at the launch ceremony who included Zimbabwe's ambassador to Brazil, Ambassador Thomas Bvuma and Zimbabwe Tourism Authority chief executive, Mr. Karikoga Kaseke promised Brazilian visitors to Zimbabwe an exclusive and intriguing tourism experience.
Currently, most Brazilian tourists prefer to visit Mozambique and Angola because Brazilians use Portuguese which is also the official language in both Mozambique and Angola.
However, SADC ministers of tourism are working towards preparing a tourism package that includes all the countries in the region, a development expected to see an increase in the number of Brazilians and other South American tourists who come to Zimbabwe.
The colourful launch ceremony was also graced by SADC ambassadors accredited to Brazil namely Angola, South Africa, Tanzania, Malawi, Botswana, Mozambique and Zambia.
The tourism brand launch serves as a platform for telling the true and well detailed Zimbabwean story. The brand, 'Zimbabwe - A World of Wonders' will also be unveiled in Sao Paulo and Rio De Janeiro this month.
Meanwhile, prior to the launch ceremony, Minister Mzembi and members of the Zimbabwe advance delegation held a meeting with Brazil's Minister of Tourism Mr. Pedro Novais, where the Brazilian government pledged to support Zimbabwe´s bid to host the UNWTO conference in 2013.
The meeting to select the 2013 UNWTO conference host country is going to be held in October this year in South Korea.
Brazil is a member of the UNWTO executive council and its support will enhance Zimbabwe´s chances of winning the bid.
