Deteriorating economy an arena of contestation - Ruhanya

Political commentator and media scholar Pedzisai Ruhanya has said the deteriorating economic situation and mass jobs cut is a serious arena of contestation in Zimbabwe.

Ruhanya's remarks come in the work of both private and public sector having engaged into massive job cuts which has seen more than 9 000 workers losing their jobs in a space of one month.

This was after the Supreme Court ruled that companies can fire workers on three months pay notice.

"This deteriorating/collapsing economy/ labour flexibility. This is now becoming the arena for social and political contestations," said Ruhanya. Livelihoods not enemies of the state, sovereignty, even land issue, plots to assassinate the President, treacherous opposition, sell-outs, factionalism, puppets of the British, imperialism, the liberation struggle. Across the civic and political divide there is convergence on the need to address the livelihoods question. No more propaganda."
