Ignore social media messages on Chinese Yuan

RESERVE Bank governor Dr John Mangudya has urged the banking public to ignore messages circulating on social media platforms claiming the multi-currency system will be abolished.

Last week, a message claimed Cabinet and Parliament had approved the return of the Zim dollar while yesterday, another message claimed the US dollar accounts will be converted to yuan.

Below is the statement in full:

ATTENTION ATTENTION

All caring Zimbabweans should go to the bank early Monday, 29th and withdraw everything in their bank accounts or transfer to some USD dominated investment accounts or savings accounts before the so called Yuan flood the banks.

The ZanuPF gvt wants to convert everything in USD (in your accounts) to the useless Yuan after which they will use the USD to pay Army General.

Please take this seriously and spread the news. Dont say we ddnt warn you.

However, Mangudya  said people behind the messages were "economic saboteurs" working against transformation of the economy.

"They just want to cause panic. People should just ignore the messages and should know that Zimbabwe will continue using multi-currency system. Yuan is part of the multi currencies and why should US dollar accounts be converted."
