Zimbabwe deflationary trend continues

Zimbabwe's year on year inflation rate for the month of May has declined 0.05 percentage points on the April rate as the deflationary trend continues.
Latest figures from the Zimbabwe Statistical Agency (ZIMSTAT) indicate that the year on year inflation rate for the month of May 2016 stood at -1.69 percent, shedding 0.05 percentage points on the April 2016 rate of -1.64 percent.
The development means that prices as measured by the all items CPI decreased by an average of -1.69 percentage points between May 2015 and May 2016.
Meanwhile, the year on year food and non-alcoholic beverages inflation prone to transitory shocks stood at -4.13 percent whilst the non-food inflation rate was -0.53 percent.
The month on month inflation rate in May 2016 was -0.24 percent shedding 0.02 percentage points on April 2016 rate of -0.21 percent.
