AAG blames foreigners for high rents in retail sector

The Affirmative Action Group (AAG) has raised concerns over the continuous licensing of foreigners in the retail sector saying the move disadvantages local entrepreneurs as property owners hike rentals.
Concerns raised by the empowerment lobby group come amid reports that foreigners are hiking rentals, leaving indigenous business people without premises to operate from.
Addressing AAG provincial leaders in the Harare, the organisation's chief executive officer, Dr Davison Gomo said the situation prevailing in Harare needs an urgent redress calling on government to swiftly intervene.
Local businessman, Mr Chamu Chiwanza called for government to move swiftly in the implementation of the indigenisation requirements in the retail sector saying the sector wants an urgent redress.
Under the Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Act sectors such as hair salons, retail and other low capital businesses have been reserved for indigenous business people.
