Zimbabwe relies from illegal miners for Gold supplies

A commentator Rejoice Ngwenya has bemoaned the celebration by the Zimbabwean government and the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe in that there has been an increase of gold supplies from gold panners more than the legal miners were doing.

"I am always proud when I talk about the artisanal miners of gold. In the month of July, the artisanal miners produced more gold than the large-scale producers at 1,2 tonnes which they produced in July versus 930 kilogrammes from large scale producers of gold, that is fantastic. Together, that is two tonnes in the month of July," he said.

"Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor, John Mangudya. How can a country's gold production be dependent on Makorokoza who degrade the environment? Are we a serious nation that relies of 'informal traders' for fiscal survival?"
