AT least 75 percent of exhibition space at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair grounds has been snapped up by exhibitors as preparations for the 53rd edition of the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair take shape.

The annual business event will be held in Bulawayo from 24-28 April.

ZITF Company marketing and corporate communications officer Mrs Stella Nkomo said exhibitors had started showing interest in taking part in the event.

"Already, the space booked for the exhibition is nine percent higher compared to the same time last year. In fact, 75 percent of available exhibition space has been allocated," she said in a news release.

Mrs Nkomo said foreign participation is expected to improve this year as companies from Brazil will be participating for the first time.

"Brazil will be a first-time exhibit. The ZITF agent in Brazil, Mr Carlo Lima, the executive director of Dandima Marketing and International Projects Director for Afro Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (Afrochamber), visited the country two weeks ago on a familiarisation trip and met a broad section of the Bulawayo and Harare business communities," said Mrs Nkomo.

She said during his visit Mr Lima said his country was keen on doing business with Zimbabwe.
Mrs Nkomo said ZITF had received promising inquiries from the SADC region, COMESA countries and the Far East with 13 foreign companies having expressed interest to date.

"Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia will occupy their leased sites while India, Pakistan, China, Brazil, South Africa, Namibia, Indonesia and German Chamber of Commerce have booked their stands inside halls. Egypt, Botswana and Russia are still to confirm," she said.

This year's exhibition, she said, will be running under the theme, "Investing locally, reaping globally" and would give exhibitors an opportunity to position their brand on the global stage.

"ZITF Company is keen to help exhibitors and visitors achieve maximum results during the exhibition," she said.

Mrs Nkomo urged companies to book early to avoid disappointments and last-minute rushes.
