An employee with the National Railways of Zimbabwe has accused her employer of failing to settle her pay arrears for quite a long time saying this has seriously affected her family.
Sinikiwe Ncube said she worked for NRZ for over 30 years and for the past four years now she walks to and from work everyday.
"Each and every day my children sit at home and watch other children go to school just because I cannot manage to pay their school fees. NRZ owes me thousands of dollars in unpaid salaries. Right now I am being paid a salary for the month of September 2016 15 months have been not been paid for. I am owed six months transport allowance," she said.
"I am owed three years bonus (2015, 2016 and 2017). I have approached the lawyers for human rights so that my basic rights can be restored. I was told that this is a labour issue I should go to the labour court and I was told that they do not interfere and I should go to the Railways employment council."
She said since 2009 she have not been paid and its either its staggered or this slashed.
"All that the Railways Employment Council says is that the company does not have money to pay for wages. Can someone out thee please tell me how can I have a basic right restored. Can someone out there please tell me how I can get paid for what I have worked for," she said.
