President Emmerson Mnangagwa has warned business people and shop owners against arbitrary price hikes of basic goods.
Mnangagwa made the remarks at the official closing of the 2017 Zanu PF extra ordinary congress in Harare.
The continuous and unwarranted increase in prices of basic commodities is threatening to dampen the festive mood.
President Mnangagwa said the arbitrary price hikes must come to an end, urging retailers to desist from profiteering and have people at heart.
He said the country's economic turnaround is going to be anchored on high agricultural production and foreign direct investment but emphasized that key choices will have to be made to attract foreign direct investment which will in turn deal with the challenge of high levels of unemployment.
The President also promised that his government is committed to restoring the financial sector viability.
The First Secretary and President Mnangagwa said wayward party cadres who have been forgiven should not think the party has forgotten, and he also reminded Zanu PF supporters the party can only win at the ballot if they show that they can revive the economy.
