On Saturday the 53rd edition of Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) ended with over 40 000 people paying to catch a glimpse of some of the best exhibitions on display.

Industry and Commerce Minister Professor Welshman Ncube said: "We had 755 exhibitors this year. The figure is slightly lower than what we had last year (834 exhibitors)."

"However, in terms of exhibition space taken (48 697 square metres), what was occupied this year still favourably compares with last year (51 362 square metres).

"This basically means that we have a closing figure of 94 percent as regards space occupied." Prof Ncube said the number of exhibitors was lower than last year's partly because many of them wanted bigger spaces.

Fourteen countries participated at the event. Among them were Brazil, Russia, South Africa and China.

There was also a huge response for the International Business Conference, which attracted 250 participants compared to 193 last year.

A couple of business conferences such as the Zimbabwe-Zambia forum and the Zim-China forum were also held in a bid to deepen bilateral ties between the countries.

Zambian President Michael Sata, who officially opened the ZITF, urged farmers to seriously consider using technology to boost productivity.

President Sata also urged local businesspeople to attend the Zambia International Trade Fair and the Zambia Agriculture Show which will be held in July and August, respectively.
