President Emmerson Mnangagwa has threatened to "shrink the business life" of entities charging United States Dollars for goods and services.

In a live interview with a local radio station on Friday night, Mnangagwa said the practice of charging US dollars was unfair to Zimbabweans who earn the RTGS$.

"We have heard that there are shops that are now charging US$ for goods and services. What is interesting is that those very businesses do not pay their own employees in that currency so I wonder where they think the people are getting the US$.

"There shall come a time when we will shrink the business life of those entities," said Mnangagwa.

He also chided businesses for wanton price hikes.

"You have products that are sold for about RTGS$4 then by midday it has gone up and then by end of day it has gone up again. We ask ourselves, what would have happened to warrant those hikes," said Mnangagwa.

More to follow as the interview proceeds......
