The Acting Prime Minister of Zimbabwe, Thokozani Khupe today launched the country's first National Energy Policy (NEP) in Harare. The launch comes at a time when Zimbabweans across the country have a sad story to tell about the power cuts they experience every day.
The policy is intended to give investors, consumers and planners a clear sense of direction and confidence in the country's energy future. It also seeks to attract investment and provide jobs and prosperity for Zimbabweans.
The Minister of Energy and Power Development, Mr Elton Mangoma said the
development of the NEP has been framed around the need to enable the
people of Zimbabwe to have access to modern energy sources by 2014.
The policy defines the immediate, medium and long term strategies to increase generation capacity in the country.
