The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions has welcomed Cabinet's long overdue approval of the Essar Africa-Zisco pact.
Thousands of jobs have been on the line for the past few years as ZISCO failed to perform and the town of Redcliff was slowly dying while government dithered on the matter.
To date scores of workers have passed on, others have failed to send their children to school as a direct result of failure by ZISCO to pay salaries to the workers.
In a statement on Friday the ZCTU Secretary general, Japhet Moyo, said the " ZCTU hopes it is a new dawn for the workers and town of Redcliff and also hopes Essar Group will prioritise the welfare of the workers who have stood by ZISCO in the tough times."
"We also look forward to seeing the end of all the political interference that brought ZISCO to its knees as Zisco and its workers suffered while political fat cats lined their pockets."
