Over 150 workers at the Road Motor Service (RMS) transport company in Bulawayo a former subsidiary of the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) went for 13 months without pay prompting them to moot process of taking the company to the independent arbitrator seeking a total payment of $18 800 in salary arrears.
The money they are owed back dates from November 2013 to December 2014.
Through the Transport and General Workers Union, the employees had initially dragged the company to the National Employment Council (NEC) for the Transport Operating Industry before senior designated Agent Nephas Ngwenya for conciliation.
On October 30, 2014 the parties failed to reach consensus at NEC level and Ngwenya had to refer the matter to the Ministry of labour.
Arbitration papers at NEC show that Ngwenya dealt with the matter and the squabbling parties reached deadlock prompting him to refer the matter to the Ministry of labour for further conciliation.
Transport and General Workers Union Secretary General Wilson Dube said at the Ministry of labour hearing the two warring parties failed to reach an agreement and the labour officer granted workers to take the matter to the arbitrator.
He said they were still processing papers to take the case to the arbitrator and hoped that they will win.
