Minister of Small to Medium Enterprises and Co-operatives Development, Sithembiso Nyoni is bracing for a clash with First Lady, Grace Mugabe after she ordered Masvingo City council to urgently remove illegal vendors from the streets.
Nyoni said the move is meant to "dignify the trade".
However, according to Masvingo Mirror, Nyoni was quick to says she was not contradicting Grace Mugabe who ordered the Police not to arrest vendors.
During her 'meet the people' rallies late last year, Geace warned the police against arresting vendors and cross boarder traders.
Grace said the vendors were operating in line with the ZimASSET, the country's economic blue print which seeks to empower the majority.
Said Nyoni "It is the responsibility of the City Council to make sure that vendors are not found everywhere as a matter of urgency.
"It is important that the City Council quickly identify vending places as soon as there are vendors in the streets in order to dignify the trade as a stopgap measure to unemployment in the country," .
Masvingo Mayor Hubert Fidze however, said there are enough vending places in the City and suburbs.
"The problem in Masvingo and Zimbabwe at large is not vending places because, there are enough designated vending places but no one wants to go there, the problem is the economy which is not performing well resulting in unemployment," said Fidze.
