The shipping and freight forwarding agents are set to benefit from the Authorised Economic Operators (AEOs) concept that will be introduced at the country's border posts next year.

The Authorised Economic Operators concept is an internationally adopted system meant to shorten customs clearance time for recognised operators.

Under the system, AEOs, which are designated companies that are involved in activities covered by the customs and excise legislation, will get quicker access to simplified customs procedures.

Shipping and Freight Forwarding Agents Association of Zimbabwe (SFFAAZ) Chief Executive Officer, Mr Joseph Musariri welcomed the move, highlighting that manufacturers, exporters and freight forwarders are losing a considerable amount of time to delays at border posts caused by customs procedures.

The concept scheduled to be presented in the second quarter of 2012 according to the 2012 National Budget will facilitate legitimate trade through priority treatment of consignments imported by reliable operators.

Mr Musariri highlighted that completion of the automation exercise by the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) will also help facilitate fast clearance of goods.
