Build your wealth; learn to invest
25 Sep 2015 at 01:19hrs | Views
If you had started saving £100 a month 5 years ago you would have £6,828.94 today in cash, all in your name. Another 5 years of this and you would have £15,592.93 - and on and on it goes.
Conversely, if instead of saving the money you took out a credit card for £6,828.94 and paid £100 a month on it, it would take you 20 years to repay that card, by which time you would have paid back a total of £24,343.66 of which £17,514.72 is interest. This is the miracle of compound interest, which Einstein called the 8th wonder of the world, saying 'those who understand it earn it, those who don't, pay it'. This remains true whether you love capitalism or loathe it.
And in that one little sentence by Einstein lies the reason why so many in Diaspora have worked so hard for so many years, and have so little at the end of it all. This is not God's will for you. The bible says we have been given all things for life and Godliness- we have all we need to lead abundant lives that are fulfilling to us and are a blessing to others.
Na Ncube, from The Global Native will be speaking about building your wealth and investing. This will be at St Peter's Church Hall in Portobello Road on the 26th of September - details below. The Global Native is a charity that encourages people to make a difference back home in Zimbabwe by investing in a program called Turning Matabeleland Green which works with rural farmers - see more here.
