Amakhosi Cultural Centre will on 27 March join the rest of the world in marking World Theatre Day by holding a five-day theatre expo and seminar under its Inxusa Festival brand.

According to Cont Mhlanga, the theatre expo is open to the arts discipline of theatre only and will run from 27 to 31 March at Amakhosi Cultural Centre.

"The target participants are professional theatre practitioners and theatre scholars in Zimbabwe," he said.

The event will be held under the theme Content, Venues and Audiences.

Mhlanga said three universities that have full departments of theatre studies would also take part.

He said they will present papers in line with the focus theme of the expo on how the theatre sector in Zimbabwe can grow in terms of content, venues and audiences.

Only three Zimbabwean universities have full departments of theatre studies while others still have it under the departments of English, Media Studies or African Languages.

The three universities that have confirmed their participation are the University of Zimbabwe (UZ), Midlands State University (MSU) and Lupane State University (LSU).

"We invite other universities and polytechnical colleges that offer graphics, design and costumes to send in delegates. Registration to participate is free and all participants fund themselves," he said.

Paper presentations would be done in the mornings, while theatre shows would be in the evenings on the main stage.

On 27 March, MSU will take to the stage, on 28 March UZ will showcase its talent, 29 March will be LSU's turn, while on 30 March, Studio X artists will take to the stage and on 31

March Ulemu Arts in collaboration with Umkhathi Theatre will perform.

"There will also be afternoon acts by different Bulawayo groups from 3pm to 4pm," he said.
