The Zimbabwe Association of Recording Industries (ZARI) has implored players within the arts industry to cooperate and unite for the enhancement of the industry's contribution to national development.

Speaking at the sidelines of the organisation's Annual General Meeting, the President of the Zimbabwe Association of Recording Industries, Mr Emion Sibindi urged all stakeholders within the industry to abide by the standing laws for the protection of the industry.

Mr Sibindi further acknowledged the need for pulling resources towards fighting the threats posed by piracy, saying this remains one of the major challenges affecting the common interests of players in the recording industry.

"Piracy remains our biggest challenge and it is imperative for all concerned to channel resources towards fighting it," said Mr. Sibindi.

Also present at the AGM was the Deputy Director for the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe, Mr Nicholas Moyo who challenged players within the industry to use the latest anti-piracy technology.

Mr Moyo also urged upcoming artists to register with the National Arts Council to ensure representation of their interests.

"Artists should find other means of fighting piracy such as the holding of live shows, because technology is ever changing and pirates are always way ahead," Mr. Moyo said.

Whilst some artists commended the strides taken by ZARI in mitigating the problems faced by players in the arts industry, with particular reference to piracy, a legal consultant for the association , Mr Aaron Mushoriwa challenged the Anti Piracy Organisation of Zimbabwe  (APOZ) to target pirate producers instead of concentrating on small players such as vendors so as to stop the illicit sale of pirated works.

The Zimbabwe Association of Recording Industries was formed in February last year with the intention of advocating for transparency and fair treatment of artists within the film and music industry.

The association is composed of leading music recording companies and film organisations who seek to regulate and harmonise the recording, manufacture and distribution of artworks within the arts industry.
