Andy Brown dies at 50

Former ILanga member died late Thursday at the age of 50.

Brown who was once married to Mbira musician Chiwoniso Maraire died at Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare at 4pm.

It is yet to be established what ailment Brown succumbed to.

Brown made his name in the 80s with Ilanga that included the late Don Gumbo and Busi Ncube.

He then pursued a solo career grabbing the lime light by singing Zanu-PF praise songs.

He worked closely with Zanu-PF spin doctor and former Information Minister Professor Jonathan Moyo in the run up to the 2005 elections.

According to the New Zimbabwe.com Prof Jonathan said: "He was a people's musician, and certainly ranked among the best ever produced by our country.

"The sad thing is that he is gone too soon before the country and wider community experienced or heard his best music."

Zimbabweans across the globe have taken to twitter to pass their condolences.

Zimbabwean journalist based in USA, tweeted "Developing Story: Singer Andy Brown died at the Parirenyatwa Hospital this afternoon after what one source described as a short illness."

Another Zimbabwean Blogger, @illceeyonline, tweeted: "Big loss to Zimbabwean music. Pray for the comforting of Andy Brown's family. Amen"
