Rihanna has hit back at those who blasted her new music video for being too violent.
The singer's latest single Man Down is accompanied by a video which shows her shooting and killing a man in a train station. It is revealed later in the video that the man assaulted her, but Rihanna - who was left with a split lip and cuts and bruises to her face after being attacked by then-boyfriend Chris Brown in 2009 - claimed she can't stop her young fans from seeing violent images.
She tweeted: "I'm a 23-year-old rock star with NO KIDS! What's up with everybody wantin me to be a parent? I'm just a girl, I can only be your/our voice!
"We have the freedom to make art, LET US! It's your job to make sure they don't turn out like US.
"U can't hide your kids from society, or they'll never learn how to adapt! This is the REAL WORLD!"
Rihanna has previously revealed that the attack by Brown had a "subliminal" effect on her and changed her entire outlook on life.
She said: "There was definitely something subliminal happening. It was coming out in the way I dressed, the way I did my hair, the way I talked, the way I took my pictures, the kinds of pictures I wanted to take.
"It was a very aggressive and defensive time, and that allowed me to start not giving a s**t. I walked around with a very f**k you attitude." -
