Herbert Wants To Come Home, the new novel from Masimba Musodza, now in its 23rd instalment, entered the Jukepop Serials JP30 at the beginning of this month and at the time of this press release had entered the Top Ten. This means that it is in the list of the most popular stories on the Jukepop serials, a status it has been steadily climbing towards since it was launched a few months ago.
The announcement was first made on the Jukepop serials' own Twitter handle, on the 3rd of March 2014, when Herbert Wants To Come Home was number 23.  About two weeks later, it entered the Top Ten.
The writer is, understandably, delighted. "Such activity on Jukepop Serials is down to readers," he notes. "As a Jukepop author, I get to see the stats and they certainly bring a smile to my face. The largest chunk of readers are based located in Zimbabwe. This is very important to me as a Zimbabwean writer. Otherwise, I might as well call myself British, seeing as I have lived here for the past twelve years now."
Another feature of the demographics that struck Musodza is that the majority of the readers in Zimbabwe are female.
Herbert Wants To Come Home was accepted in October of 2013 on Jukepop Serials, an online publishing platform. Readers access content via their Facebook pages, ensuring individual identities when voting. While the first chapter of any submission goes through a vigorous editorial process, it is the voting and comments that keep the story going. It is these votes that have seen Herbert Wants To Come Home soar to the JP30 list to the top ten in just a month, making it the most read horror story by a Zimbabwean writer. Whether it will be at number one will be decided by the votes this week.
Masimba Musodza would like to express his profound gratitude to everyone who has voted, and also to media organisations such as The Zimbabwean, 2Feet Africa and Bulawayo 24News for profiling Herbert Wants To Come Home.
A print edition of the novel is planned for summer. The story can be read right now at #sthash.uRO3w5xR.dpuf">http://www.jukepop.com/home/read/1074
