Sungura icon and his estranged second wife, Fortunate ‘Tafadzwa' Mapako, with their two minor children, Wednesday underwent the much – awaited DNA paternity tests at the National Blood Transfusion Services of Zimbabwe (NBTSZ) in Harare with results expected in two weeks time, sources told The Zimbabwe Mail.
A source, privy to the issue told this newspaper the DNA paternity tests which had attracted massive media and public interest was a closed session.
"Macheso, 'Tafadzwa' and the two children went to NBTSZ where the paternity tests were carried out. The tests were carried out secretively to avoid media and public interest as the issue had become a national subject. I can confirm that the tests were carried out today (Wednesday) and results are expected within the next two weeks.Macheso's lawyer (Norman Mugiya) has since paid the required amount for the DNA tests to be carried out and catered for all (other) necessary costs," a source said.
DNA tests are done at NBTSZ and are sent to South Africa for laboratory examination, before results are revealed.
Macheso's lawyer, Mugiya, could neither confirm nor deny that the DNA tests were carried out yesterday.
"I cannot deny or confirm that my client underwent the paternity tests, as we have agreed that the issue must be closed to public scrutiny…that's all I can say," said Mugiya, who declined to answer more questions when pressed for a further comment.
Efforts to obtain a comment from Mapako's lawyers were fruitless as their phones went unanswered last night.
The two are currently embroiled in a maintenance saga.
The civil court, two weeks ago, ruled that Mapako be paid $1 030 per month, throwing out the $7 1 30, she had applied for.
She has since taken the matter to High Court for review of the lower court's decision.
It is alleged that problems that led the two to divorce, according to Mapako began late last year when Macheso allegedly inserted his manhood into his sick child, saying that would heal fontanelle (nhova/ inkanda) problem.
Macheso is alleged to have claimed it was a traditional rite.
However, Macheso is denying these claims saying they are mere fabrications meant to tarnish and destroy his musical career.
Mapako also alleged that since December 2013, Macheso had been neglecting her and the two minor children.
Macheso has since denied neglecting the family.
