Controversial, talented singer, Rockford Josphats, popularly known as Roki in the music circles has dumped the urban grooves saying he is no longer part of the genre.
"I am no-longer referred to as an urban groover because I have matured in music meaning that I am just a contemporary musician with no particular genre," said Rocki.
"I am sure the music I have been making in recent times has proved my quality and the type of a musician that I am. I cannot be compared to any of the urban grooves artistes not because they are not good artistes, but it is what Zimbabweans have seen as urban grooves music which is not what I do as a musician,"
The Chidzoka hit-maker has been struggling to find his footing to garner popularity, but he is back on pole position on the local music charts with his Number One track.
Despite Roki arguing he is no-longer an urban groover, he was once greatly involved with the rise of the genre and is among the artistes who pioneered this type of music.
He rose to fame with hit songs which had complete urban groove flair.
"I was once an urban groover back in the day, but my approach to music at the moment is changed completely as I am now focusing on music that is mature," he said
"Those who have managed to compare my first singles when I started the whole music thing can see the difference in the music I am making at the moment. I still feel that urban grooves artistes have a lot to deliver for them to make an impact on the music platforms."
Asked if he is the one who groomed Soul Jah Love, Roki said he was the inspiration to the rise of Soul Jah Love and Ras Calab (the Tokwe-Mukosi singer).
"I did not just teach those two guys how to do music, but I was their source of inspiration. I helped them to grow big in music," added Roki.
Meanwhile, Roki is in the studio recording his 3rd studio album Bundhu Boy which will feature several regional artistes.
