TWENTY-SEVEN-YEAR-OLD international model, Miss Zimbabwe USA Yolanda Grace Yona is back in the country to scout for talent with the help of the Zimbabwe Fashion Week (ZFW) founder Priscilla Chigariro.
The scouting process which commences today in Mutare is being done under Yona's agency - Yolanda Grace Yona (YGY) - to be launched in December.
The scouting would see successful local models getting the platform to travel to New York.
"I came back to scout for new talent for international modelling. There isn't many Zimbabweans on the international modelling scene yet when I come to Zimbabwe I see a lot of potential and raw talent, so I spoke with Ford Modelling Agency and they allowed me to scout for new talent for them" she said.
Ford Modelling Agency is one of the biggest international modelling agencies. It has been in existence since 1946 and has given high-profile jobs to models, hairstylists and make-up artists who have greatly influenced the industry of fashion and modelling.
After scouting, Yona said she intends to approach other international modelling agencies in a bid to scout for them and grow the scouting process in Zimbabwe. "After the first scouting, I want to approach other international agencies so we can widen the chances of Zimbabwean models breaking into the international modelling scene.
"I want to scout for talent nationwide focusing mostly on the high-density suburbs and rural areas.
"Sadly, I will not be able to do that this time as I have to fly back, so to start with, I chose to scout in Mutare and Harare. We will expand the scouting when I come back in December," she said.
"Scouting in Harare will be done on the 27th of September at the Harare City Library starting at 10am. The requirements are simple, those coming should not wear any makeup, the girls must be at least 1,68 metres and 1,75 metres tall for the guys."
"One doesn't need to be extravagantly beautiful, but they need to be unique in a way that is striking. I am inviting everyone to come and audition, you don't need to have any modelling experience either."
Yona is starting a routine where she will fly back home to scout for talent every three months and plans are underway to secure offices where her scouting agency will operate from. She is also considering resettling in Zimbabwe to pursue various projects.
"I have several projects that I want to come and start in the next few months and one of my exciting projects is to start my YGY lingerie collection" she said.
