IT was all smiles for 23 year old beauty therapist Precious Ncube from Tsholotsho who was crowned Miss Environment Zimbabwe at Hartsfield Sports Ground on Saturday evening beating nine other contestants.
Ncube was crowned ahead of Busisiwe Falala representing Umguza who was crowned Miss Climate and MSU student in Politics and Public Management Bathabitsoe Nare from Gwanda who was Miss Global Warming.
For her efforts she won a first prize of two nights at Siesta Lodge in Binga, a tablet from Astro and a cosmetics hamper from Black Opal.
Speaking after winning the title Ncube said she was over the moon and would carry the mantle of Miss Environment towards raising awareness about the environment.
"I'm happy that I've won. It shows that hard work pays off and I have been working hard on my environmental projects. I would like to thank those who saw that my efforts were the best on the night," she said.
The newly crowned Miss Environment Zimbabwe, whose project was about land degradation in particular soil erosion, said being on stage and answering questions was not as easy as she made it put to be.
"Being on stage is a daunting task and you've to be confident in the question and answer sessions. All the information in the world can't save you if you don't have confidence," she said.
During the show, each model was being asked questions from her project.
However most models save for Ncube, Falala and Nare, failed to answer questions about environmental issues, which could be because of stage fright or maybe it was because they did not understand.
Green 4 Lyfe director Braiton Takundwa said he was proud of what the models did with their projects.
"Miss Environment Zimbabwe reigns before she is crowned. She is involved in environmental issues before she becomes queen. That was what we wanted as Miss Environment," he said.
The pageant started two hours late as organisers were frantically trying to tie up loose ends as people were trickling in.
Socialites such as former model Cyclone Ree who is fresh from a two year stint in China and television personality Nyasha "Diva" Mtamangira were part of the crowd.
The judges on the night were Green 4 Lyfe founder Braiton Takundwa, Sunday News Senior Reporter Peter Matika, Naledi Kulube of Environment Management Agency and Maidei Makope of Mzansi 4 Sho.
