Mathias Mhere saga takes new twist

Gift Mahlupeka, who allegedly cheated with gospel star Mathias Mhere's wife Susan Dzinamarira, claims the WhatsApp texts at the centre of the scandal were in fact written by the popular musician himself.
Mahlupeka, an upcoming musician and long-time friend of Mhere, told the Daily News yesterday that the intimate messages were designed to trap the gospel musician's wife who was contemplating divorce.
"Most of the WhatsApp text messages published in the media and being circulated on social media were sent by Mhere to his wife using my phone," said Mahlupeka.
"The truth is that Susan had decided to divorce Mhere after unearthing illicit affairs between him and several girlfriends. She had had enough."
Mahlupeka added that Mhere asked him to be part of a trap that would turn the tables against Susan.
"In a bid to avoid the divorce that would have brought negative publicity ahead of the launch of his latest album, Mhere had to act decisively. He asked me to be part of the trap and the WhatsApp texts were meant to create evidence that would nail Susan," he said.
The fact that Mhere had quickly "forgiven" his wife despite the existence of the damning texts "is because he knows he created them and that she is innocent."
"The reason why Mhere failed to divorce Susan hinges on the fact that he was aware that I never had sex with her. And also because he was the one who was chatting with his wife using my phone masquerading as me," he said.
"The messages helped him to stop the divorce and more importantly he was able to make her feel guilty. He was able to convince her that they needed to forgive each other and save their six-year marriage," he said.
Mahlupeka boldly emphasised that Susan was an innocent victim of Mhere's deception.
"Mhere can do anything for the sake of fame. He is so heartless to the extent of sacrificing his wife for popularity's sake," he said.
"Initially, Mhere wanted to fake his own death to promote his latest offering Glory To Glory but later realised that it was a tired marketing gimmick. He has decided to sacrifice me and his wife so as to gain sympathy from the society in a bid to generate more sales for his album," he said.
Mahlupeka, who also specialises in marketing timber, further claimed that Mhere's matrimonial problems began last year when Susan allegedly discovered an intimate message from Mhere to a certain Mavis who is a member of producer Lyton Ngolomi's choir called Xtreme Afrique.
"That Mhere is a womaniser is for sure. His wife sent us the WhatsApp message from him to his girlfriend Mavis .
"Susan out of anger temporarily abandoned their Waterfalls home and went to stay with relatives in Southlea Park," claimed Mahlupeka.
Efforts to contact Mhere were fruitless as his phone was repeatedly unreachable.
