THE funeral of legendary actor Roland Mqwebu will be held at St Michael's Catholic Church in Red Hill, north of Durban on Saturday. The service will start at 9am.
Daily Sun reported that the 74-year-old, better known as Mkhize from the sitcom Emzini Wezinsizwa, died on Friday at the eThekwini Hospital and Heart Centre.
Roland's daughter, Andile said: "My dad had been suffering from kidney failure since the beginning of this year. He was in and out of hospitals. Sadly we lost him to the illness."
Secretary of the KZN Creative Workers' Union of South Africa and Mqwebu's friend, Joy Mbewana said: "I worked with him for nine years on a KZN government campaign. He was my hero. He made things happen."
Roland is the second acting legend to die in recent months after Bafana Mlangeni - better known as Sibeko from the same sitcom - died in July. Minister of Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa paid tribute to the talented artist and musician.
"His light will continue to shine through generations as one of the torchbearers of the arts fraternity," said Mthethwa.
President Jacob Zuma said: "The industry has lost a much loved and talented actor and the country is much poorer without him."
Zuma sent Mzansi's condolences to Roland widow, Pinkie MaDlamini, his sons Ntuthuko and Manqoba and his daughters, Slindile and Andile
