MISS Zimbabwe Environment Bulawayo prejudging is set to be held at Horizon Pub, Bar, Lounge and Restaurant today ahead of the finals at the same venue tomorrow.
The event will see 20 Bulawayo models battling for honours.
The theme for the pageant is Forestry for People and would be a green carpet event instead of the usual red colour.
The national finals would be held at the end of the year with provincials to be held across the country during the course of the year.
The next provincial finals would be held in Harare at the end of May.
Pageant founder Braiton Takundwa said the objective of the pageant was to create ambassadors and activists of the environment in the country. These would be
practically involved in programmes that would empower communities to fight environmental degradation.
Bulawayo finalists are supposed to have worked on project proposals on environmental issues that would be judged by a six-member panel drawn from local business people and fashion designers.
The prejudging would determine the best proposal and is the core of the pageant, as it would contribute 90 percent to the contestant's final mark. The 10 percent would be for their ramp work.
The pageant, the first of its kind in the country, would be graced by Deputy Prime Minister Thokozani Khupe.
Takundwa said the pageant was different from others because models would spearhead environmental campaigns that would make a difference in their communities.
He said the Environmental Management Agency would be responsible for marking the projects.
During the build up to the pageant Miss Zimbabwe Environment partnered with local organisations such as Forestry Commission, Bulawayo City Council and Mbira Tours in planting trees in and around the city.
Takundwa said there would be prizes for the best and worst dressed at the pageant and the theme colour would be green.
"We expect all those who come to be in green. There shall be a green carpet as you enter the venue. There shall be prizes for the best and worst dressed person according to the green theme," he said.
Artistes that would provide entertainment include Pax Gomo, Rudo Nyoni, Simunye Simunye, POY, DJs Keezy and Kimbo.
