On Saturday the 20th of December 2014, Hunnar Management Agency in collaboration with a local Boutique - UNIQUE (8th Ave/G.Silundika) opposite City Hall in Bulawayo, will be hosting a Designer Sale Off from 8am till 5pm. βIn many cases designers showcase at various platforms and as the audience, we never have the opportunity to buy what we would have seen on the ramp, unless we go backstage to look for the designer. Sometimes, we do not even remember which designer we would have loved their works.'
The Designer Sale Off is a concept that came about as an event to allow the general public to be able to purchase some of their favourite pieces from the designers. It will be an end of year annual event that will be held in collaboration with a few local designers. The main idea is to flood the streets with local designer clothes and also to appreciate our own creative. This year, the designers that will be participating in the Sale Off are Ara Kani, who is known for showcasing at the recently ended Intwasa Fashion Show, KOAS in Cape Town and Durban Fashion Fair 2014. The young designer who is formerly known as Rebelious Klothing, rebranded to Ara Kani in October soon after he came back from the Durban Fashion Fair. Zanele Dube of Zah Designs will also be one of the designers having their outfits available for less than US$30 at the event. She is a Bulawayo Polytechnic Student who is one of the 3 designers selected from the Intwasa Fashion Show to be attached with Edgars Stores as part of developing local talent.
Matabeleland Fashion Week β Female Designer of the Year, Umlongo by Wani Baker will also have her Afrocentric pieces available on sale. The new designer has caused a lot of waves and has been doing well in the fashion industry. She has marked her territory with her well finished garments. Accessory Designers β Snini Collection and BlinQ Xclusive Jewellery will be having some pieces available at a clearance price. The 2 brands have polluted the streets of Bulawayo with their creative pieces. Also having his works available at the event is Shadow By Sidumiso who is one of the outstanding male designers from Zimbabwe. He will also be attaching with Edgars Stores as from next year. The 29 year old designer is known for his well-tailored pieces. The last designer is two time winner of Clothing Indaba, Sanah Designs. She is a student at the Bulawayo Polytechnic and has a street edgy look that many fashionable teenagers have fallen in love with.
"We are excited to be presenting this initiative which should allow our own people to consume their own 100% Zimbabwean products. The Designer Sale Off is meant to clear all pieces that the designers have been stocking throughout the year. Everything will be ridiculously affordable & everyone who will come through should leave with one or more pieces. This partnership with UNIQUE should encourage local establishments to support local entrepreneurs."
