The son of legendary musician, Lovemore Majaivana Tshuma, Derrick, will record some of his father's songs on his debut album titled Angeke.

The up-and-coming artiste, who had his debut international show in March when he travelled with Albert Nyathi, told Chronicle Entertainment that he had made inroads into the Harare market and people were asking him to play his father's songs during his live performances.

Tshuma said he would be going to the studio next month and was planning to do renditions of his father's songs.

"In as much as I would like to make a name for myself through my own original works, I can't resist calls from members of the public because they can make me a better artiste in the future," he said.

The forthcoming album touches on various social issues, the same kind of issues his father popularised.

"My album is a continuation of my father's works. I know taking over from where he left is going to be hard for me. I am facing a big task.

"Since I am working with the same people that my father worked with, I am confident that I will impress and preserve my father's legacy," he said.

Derrick's career spans back to the early 90s when he was working with his father despite the fact that his father wanted him to concentrate on academic studies.

In 2007, Derrick joined One Plus One, a Bulawayo band, but he felt it was not what he wanted and he decided to go solo and do the same kind of music his father did.

He joins the likes of Sulumani Chimbetu, Ndux Junior and the late Samson Mtukudzi who used to perform some of their fathers' songs live.
