NAMA set for Bulawayo

The National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA) will, for the first time, be held outside Harare, with Bulawayo hosting the 12th edition in February next year.
National Arts Council of Zimbabwe Director, Elvis Mari said lack of funding has been hampering moves to take the awards out of the capital.
"Although we have hosted NAMA every year with little resources, challenges such as lack of funding have been limiting us to Harare only and this time we have been promised a bit of funding to move the event to other towns and cities. Obviously we will not only stop in Bulawayo, but will move to other cities," said Mr Mari.
Mr Mari urged artists to submit their works through arts organisations, institutions, associations or as individuals.
Meanwhile, artists have welcomed the move to take the awards out of Harare saying it was long overdue.
"It is a welcome move because this will give an opportunity to other artists from different provinces, cities and towns....I hope it will not be Harare and Bulawayo only and they should host NAMA in other places such as Masvingo, Mutare and other places where the arts are thriving," one artist said.
Entries are being invited for those who are into literary arts, music, visual arts, film and television.
The submission deadline is the end of this month.
