Marabi maestro Jeys Majahodwa Marabini has promised fireworks for the 21st February Movement Musical Gala to be held tonight in Glendale in Mashonaland Central Province. The event, to be held at Rujeko Secondary School in Tsungubvi Township, forms part of the annual celebration of the life and legacy of President Mugabe, who turned 89 this year.
In an interview, Marabini said that he was going to bring his best for the gala. He said for him and other artistes performing at the gala, invitation to take part in the event deserved to be thanked with a top notch performance.
"People should expect the best from me because just being at the event by itself is a huge honour and to put up a poor showing is out of the question. As artistes we live for such occasions and I am hopeful that the performance that I give on the day will reflect this," he said.
Marabini said he was going to represent the music scene in Bulawayo with a performance that would show that the good music was still well and truly alive in the city. He said besides himself, other invited artistes from the city were raring to go.
"I am going there to show what we in Bulawayo have to offer. It will not be just me but Sandra and other artistes from the city will also be performing there so our desire is to put the city back on the map when it comes to music," he said.
He encouraged Zimbabweans from all walks of life to come for the gala, as it was a national event that deserved to be celebrated by all. He also expressed joy at being invited for the event, saying it showed his growing stature as an artiste, as he was now being continually invited for important national occasions.
"This is a national event, so I would like to see as many people as possible coming on board and celebrating with us. The Jeys Marabini brand is continually growing and being invited for this gala is just a good illustration of that point," he said.
Marabini also thanked the organisers for inviting as many artistes from all regions of the country as possible, saying it ensured that the event would be a melting pot of different musical styles.
"If you look at it, we will be rubbing shoulders with artistes from different parts of the country and that is good for the gala and our careers as well," he said.
