THE Mr and Miss Tsholotsho modelling contest that was cancelled on 23 October after the Government directed that gatherings in Tsholotsho should be called off following an outbreak of influenza A in the district, is now set for Saturday.
The modelling contest is going to be held at Tsholotsho BSPZ and a total of 75 female and male models are scheduled to take it to the ramp.
The show organiser, Greatmans Agrippa Sibanda, said: "Following a Government directive that all gatherings in Tsholotsho should be cancelled we had to shelve our show that was scheduled for 23 October. We could not go against a Government directive and we are glad that the influenza has been contained and we will be having our show on Saturday," said Sibanda.
He said the show was going to run under the theme "Beauty and Brains", the aim being to come up with a Miss Tsholotsho who is going to work with the Tsholotsho community.
"The models have been drawn from different schools around Tsholotsho. There are a total of 45 who will fight it out for the Miss Tsholotsho crown while 30 male models are set to take to the ramp and fight for the Mr Tsholotsho crown. As the theme suggests, the main aim of the show is to come out with a Miss Tsholotsho who is going to work with the people of Tsholotsho. "She must be a role model, able to do community work and help the vulnerable members of society that include children and the elderly. She needs to be a good ambassador of Tsholotsho playing an active role in HIV/ Aids awareness campaigns," said Sibanda.
The models have been drawn from Tsholotsho High School, Dinyane High School, Nhambe Secondary School, Magama Secondary School and Mavela Secondary School.
Sibanda said the models were going to walk away with fabulous prizes that have been sourced by the Tsholotsho business community. Sichelesile Dube, a Tsholotsho High School Upper Six student, is the reigning Miss Tsholotsho.
