The première of the new "Gringo Troublemaker" film has been set for April 18 at the 7 Arts Theatre.

The 110-minute comedy will feature characters such as "Mbudzi Yadhura" played by Blessing Chimhowa and William Matenga known as "Gweshegweshe" who will retain their roles.

Scriptwriter and producer Enock Chihombori, who featured in previous dramas as "Tobby Mamvura", would not be appearing in the film this time around. In an interview, Chihombori said they decided to downsize the cast to cut down on production costs.

"What is going to come out is the best quality we can afford and we did not want to rush our product. This time I will not be featuring in the film because the script did not accommodate my character. But 'Mbudzi Yadhura' will be a worse dullard this time around with Gringo doing worse things than before."

Old characters like Agnes Tigy will appear as the maid who replaces Madhumbe, but with a different character, while the main supporting character would be Tapiwa Mapindidze, who plays the role of John. Seasoned actress Evangelista Mwatse would also be featuring in the film as John's girlfriend (Mary).

"The story did not accommodate some of the old characters and we needed new characters for a change. Viewers should not worry since the production is better than what we did before in terms of picture quality, sound and humour.

"That is possibly the reason why we took a lot of time in producing the film," said the Botswana-based Chihombori. Lazarus Boora, whose character is "Gringo", could not hide his joy in an interview with The Herald.

"I enjoyed working with the crew in the film's production. The silence was meant for us to bring a good product. Pese taiita madrama asi apa rava firimu kurakidza kukura zvee (For a long time, we were focusing on dramas, but now we have since moved a stage higher and we are producing films).

"Gringo has not lost lustre and all his fans should gear for his best in the film," said Boora. The movie revolves around John, who is a hardworking young man. He wants to show his girlfriend that he is rich and is tempted to consult a witchdoctor for charms to please Mary.

Coincidentally, John meets Gringo who misrepresents to him that he is a witchdoctor and everything turns upside down. The movie was edited by Ben Mahaka who is also one of the executive producers alongside Chihombori.
