Nearly two years after they were unceremoniously fired from popular SABC1 soapie Generations‚ four of the 16 actors have reunited on a new Mzansi Magic drama.
Actors Anga Makubalo‚ Zikhona Sodlaka‚ Zenande Mfeyana and Thami Mngqolo were among 16 actors who were dismissed by Generations after they went on strike in late 2014.
Their departure from the show sent shock waves across the industry and left many fans wondering what would become of their favourite actors. But the actors' paths have once again crossed as they united for a new drama‚ Igazi‚ which debuted on Sunday on DStv channel 161.
Makubalo is playing a lead role in the drama which has been described as a tale of magic‚ myth and melodrama.
The story centres around a Xhosa royal family whose conflict over the throne is made complicated by the appearance of magical forces of darkness. What makes the reunion even sweeter is that it is under the direction of Ferguson Films‚ the film production company co-founded by Generations: The Legacy actress Connie Ferguson who recently announced her departure from that soapie to focus on Igazi among other productions.
Meanwhile, actor, Menzi Ngubane, has officially joined the cast of another Mzansi Magic production – Isibaya.
"I'm joining Isibaya and I'm very excited. This has been brewing for a very long time. I kept saying that when the time's right I'd join‚ and now the time's right‚" Menzi told TimesLive.
Menzi is joining the series as Judas Ngwenya‚ a taxi boss who has a bad reputation.
Since returning to TV screens after surviving kidney failure‚ Menzi has played roles on e.tv's Ashes to Ashes and Gold Diggers. Thuli Thabethe will also be joining the show and will play Menzi's on-screen wife‚ Beauty Ngwenya.
