Kariba gospel singer on the rise

A Kariba based gospel singer Shupikai Magaso has weathered financial challenges, lack of airplay and doggy marketing to release five albums.
Masango said poor marketing is negatively affecting musicians.
"As for the challenges I faced in this industry, as you know the music industry is a tough one.
"At first was on third party contract with Metro Studios but did not do well because its tough to market yourself when you are not financially stable" Magaso told Bulawayo24.com.
"The other challenge I faced was poor marketing. I was on contract but my music was not distributed in the shops and no airplay from radio stations".
She said music needs support such as having honest promoters and sound sponsorship among other issues.
"If you don't have assistance you can have as many albums as you can but to no avail. Therefore , am appealing for assistance from those who can" she said.
Magaso was born in 1969 in Banket, Lomagundi.
While at Kambuzuma High 1, she was a member of the scripture union and that's when she learnt to play a guitar.
She also lead praise and worship in ZAOGA.
Along the way she learnt how to play a saxophone.
Her first album is titled Zvinoda Nyasha and has eight tracks.
She then followed it u with Ivai Nesu then Chikumbiro.
Her forth project was with the National Aids Council and the firth set to be released is on tourism- Welcome to Zimbabwe.
Album on Kariba, Shupikai says her aim is help market the resort Town so that it can reclaim its lost glory of the 1990s and early 2000 when the Town was ranked one of the Best Holiday Destination in Southern Africa.
Her first show was in 2004 at Harare Gardens with Remmington Mbeya, Pastor Juru, Fungisai and many more.
"We did well on this show and was discovered by Redrose Entertainment.
"In 2006 I recorded my second album IVai nesu which was not marketed well by ZMC and i had to do a 3rd album Chikumbiro" she said.
Band Members, Norman Tapambwa, Joseph, Drums and percussion, Elisha Tsepo, Backing vocals Jonah Mgazi, Vimbai Madungauta, Blessing Mashonganyika and Shadrek Bakolo. Others are Rosebud Chakanetsa and and her daughter Miriam Magaso
