Local musician and dancer, Shepherd Kunodziya, popularly known in the music circles as Taso, has broken his eight-year silence with the release of his 10th album and dvd titled 'Wakanga Wanzwei'?
Taso last made waves in 2005 with the album 'The Return of Taso'.
After the release of the album, Taso trekked to South Africa for greener pastures. However, things did not work out as he wished and he returned home to venture back into the music industry.
Besides his music, Taso was popular with his dancing skills when he released songs such as Watopedza, Usandibate and Vaka Zimbabwe.
In an interview with ZBC News, Taso said he is back to revive his musical rhythm but with a different style.
"I am back with my old beat, but obviously we have revived it to suit the current musical scene. I am sure a lot of my fans who have been missing my music will get the chance to evoke some memories once they listen to my new album," he said.
Taso said he is back in the fold and has decided to return to his Pansula music and will in the meantime revive some of his old and new beat.
He however encouraged other local musicians to counter piracy by concentrating on some live shows.
Plans are now underway for a number of live concert shows with South African musician Freddie Gwala.
Said Taso, "Local artists should now concentrate on some live shows because it has proved that we are failing to beat this monster called piracy."
Born in 1970 in Wedza, Taso is a former student of the Zimbabwe College of Music where he learnt to perfect his voice and play several musical instruments including keyboards in 1994.
Among the albums that made him popular in Mozambique, Botswana and Zimbabwe include Taso Dances With You, Taso Gets Dangerous, To Be More Dangerous and Taso Comes to Town.
After being out of the fast growing music industry for almost 8 years, it now remains to be seen whether Taso will be accepted back into the local musical fold.
