Popular South African house-music DJ Black Coffee has asked YFM to stop playing his music, 'Three-Men on a Boat' reported.
This is after they allegedly tried to blackmail him over the upcoming concert, Africa Rising.
This escalated to a point where the Soulistic Music founder, real name Nkosinathi Maphumulo, tweeted the CEO of YFM saying:
@YFM CEO Kanthan Pillay YES Do REMOVE @SoulisticMusic's Music on your System.
He also said he would 'NOT subject [himself] to any unethical bullying from you (YFM) or anyone else about rights of our Music'.
According to a tweet by black-owned label Native Rhythms everything came to a head when YFM wanted take over Black Coffee's concert
@Terry_Mtera there is an email from @Yfm saying they withdraw support for #africarising for not staging another concert which they will own
It's great to see artists taking a stand for the rights to their ideas. Every so often they bow down to pressure and ideas are taken over by seemingly super-powerful institutions.
