Gospel star Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave has released her ninth album fittingly titled Social Facts.

The six-track album, which has been released just before Zvakavapano-Mashavave completes a bachelor's degree in sociology, featured several top artistes including Albert Nyathi, Jah Prayzah, Buhle Mahlangulela and Mudiwa Hood.

The gospel star told the Daily News on Tuesday that her studies into sociology and theology have armed her with the necessary knowledge to make an album which is essentially a sociological insight into Zimbabwean society.

"Borrowing from sociology, the title of my album refers to values, beliefs and norms of a society. It is a summation of our Zimbabwean society," she said.

Fungisai made a glowing reference to the track Gore Rapera which featured the popular Jah Prayzah.

"In our society, people celebrate every end of year. In this song we thank God for taking us through the year," said the Makomborero hit-maker.

Other plug tracks on Social Facts include Super Power which is a duet with Albert Nyathi; Zuva Rabuda; I know My Destiny; Wedding Bells which features Mudiwa Hood and Jesu Ndomuda on which Mashavave collaborated with South African gospel star Buhle Mahlangulela.

Mashavave said the inclusion of secular musicians will extend the reach of her music.

"I am so glad that all these artistes have agreed to work with me as this will help send the gospel message to many. Collaborations boost the quality of the music," she said.

The gospel star, who is now being managed by Brian Makosa, played regular mbira on the new album expected to be officially launched early next year.

"Now I can play mbira and have direct control on how my music comes out," said Mashavave.

"I believe as artistes, we must move on with time and avoid being monotonous. In the initial days of gospel music, there was no movement on stage but as the new generation we have brought some energy on stage.

"Who would have known that people can go all night dancing and jumping to gospel music? As an artiste I like trying new things and that makes us feel good," said the celebrated gospel artiste.
