Black Umfolosi re-compiles their hits from yesteryear

INTERNATIONALLY recognised Bulawayo-based imbube outfit, Black Umfolosi, has recompiled some of their yesteryear albums and is now working on securing a local distribution dealer.

The group founded soon after independence has more than 15 albums to its name, however, their music was not readily available on the local market as it was mostly appreciated abroad.

Tomick Dube, one of the founder members of the revered outfit said the group was done with studio work.

"We have re-recorded 10 albums from 1984 to the last album we did two years ago but collection does not include all the albums we have done.

According to Chronicle, the tracks were mixed at Joe Maseko's studios but we are yet to get a reliable distribution dealer to take the music to the people," said Dube.

Dube said soon after the release, the albums would be accessible on compact discs, MP3 form as well as on the internet. The imbube exponents recorded nine of the 15 albums in the country while the other six were recorded in Europe.

Dube said some of the albums they have re-done include Unity, Xoxani Lixolelane (One Voice), Shosholoza and Amen. The gumboot dancers became a household name after they released the title track Unity in 1987.

Black Umfolosi's other tracks include Istofotofo, Intombi yalumfana, Konyana, Umbulali, Xoxani lixolelane, Hosanna yekudenga and Khuluma lami.
