The announcement made by organisers of the much hyped John Legend show that the cheaper tickets were sold out on Monday night has torched a storm with some sections of local fans lamenting over the development.
The fans argued that it was an elitist show and the organisers were deliberately shutting out ordinary citizens by starving the market of cheaper tickets.
The show is set for the Harare International Conference Centre on November 19 and organisers Davies Event on Monday said on their official website that the low priced tickets had sold out and only VIP tickets were available.
Read the post: "Please note all $30, $50 and $75 tickets have been reserved already. Please do not travel to the box office if you require tickets in these categories and have not managed to reserve them."
The organisers advised interested music lovers to buy the remaining $100 tickets at their box office at the HICC .
Efforts to ascertain the quantity of tickets printed from the organisers drew a blank yesterday as the mobile phone provided on the website went unanswered.
"How can the tickets be sold out in one night, and why is it only the cheaper tickets are gone and the high end tickets still available?
"I foresee another Bryan Adams scenario," said one staunch John Legend fan, Comfort Bake.
However, some section of music lovers defended the organisers and submitted that it was only natural for cheaper things to sell faster.
"Obviously, it's natural for cheaper things to sell faster so there is nothing sinister about that.
"It simply means the demand is high and people had to rush for what they can afford," said one Tawanda Mapondera.
Meanwhile, no local act has been announced as part of the show .
The show is part of the All Of Me tour in which the multiple award winning artiste is touring the world.
John Legend's lyrics are pregnant with romantic overtures and this has endeared him to mostly female fans and to those who have passion for slow jams.
