The case of Ottilia Mmatjatji Malatji, 29, who was allegedly caught with R4.6 million worth of drugs at OR Tambo International Airport on Sunday, was postponed to 7 October, pending a bail application.
She appeared briefly in the Kempton Park Magistrate's Court on Tuesday morning, and will remain in custody until her next appearance, Kempton Express reported.
Malatji had arrived from Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates and had gone through the "nothing to declare" exit when she was stopped by customs officials.
Her luggage was searched and 15.4kgs of ephedrine was found and confiscated.
The South African Revenue Service (SARS) initially said in a statement that she was a local actress, but police later confirmed that she was not a celebrity.
A SARS official said it appeared the confusion was sparked by police officers at the airport mistaking the woman for a star of several popular soap operas.
The suspect has opted to be represented by a lawyer when she makes her second appearance on Wednesday, October 7.
The case of mistaken identity sparked much discussion on Twitter yesterday with people speculating who she might be.
