Mapfumo, Majongwe to collaborate

Protest musician Raymond Majongwe says he will do a joint song with chimurenga music legend Thomas Mapfumo.
Majongwe, who is also a veteran trade unionist, told the Daily News that they agreed on the collaboration on the sidelines of a show the two held on April 16 in Leicester in the United Kingdom that also featured solo guitarist Steve "Dhongi" Makoni.
"We have covered much of the ground work on the forthcoming joint song and more details about the development will be revealed in due course," was all the 45-year-old artiste was prepared to say.
The burly singer, whose hard-hitting songs are hardly played on local radio stations, added that the rare joint show with music legend Mapfumo in the United Kingdom created a platform for him to popularise his music.
"It was a good show to say the least. It was well-attended and fans in the United Kingdom are now looking for my music.
"I am currently uploading my music on social media platforms such as YouTube and Facebook among others so as to make the show accessible to fans," said the Dhiziri paChinhoyi singer.
At the Leicester gig, he played some songs off his recently-released album titled Zimbabwe Ndeyedu Tese which emphasises the fact that Zimbabwe should not be monopolised by a few corrupt politicians.
"Fans warmed up to the songs and the response was very encouraging. The album is targeted at those high profile politicians who are governing Zimbabwe like their private company," said Majongwe.
Songs making the latest album include Pamuromo, Zimbabwe Ndeyedu Tese, Amai, Havana Mari, Matsotsi, Ngozi, Tabata Muroyi, Tauya and Veruvengo.
The protest musician has over 30 studio albums which include Which Way Africa?, The Daily News (Singing it like it is), Dr. Hastings "Kamuzu" Banda, I sing What I like, Samora Machel, Xenophobia, Mr Music Man, Musazvidzokorore Futi - Long Live President and Psalms 35.
