Oskid accused of stealing song

Award-winning producer Prince "Oskid" Tapfuma has been accused of stealing a song by little known Germany based musician, Vimbai "Vee Kay" Zimuto and giving it to Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave.

Fungisai released her latest album Huya Uone Zvakuitika which carries the song Amai Ndakanaka Amai.

Vee Kay claims to have given Oskid her song, Ndakanaka to produce.

However, the song is a popular children's rhyme which is sang by children during playtime.

Vee Kay posted under Fungisai's Facebook video marketing the song, "Hello Fungisai. I would like to tell you that this song is mine. I gave it to Oskid to do a beat for it. I even paid for the beat which I am still waiting for. Gadzirirai ma lawyer amana (prepare for a lawsuit). Oskid told me you were a professional but you have taught me a good lesson that I will never forget. I have all the proof of all our transactions and emails. I told you this song is already registered."

However, Fungisai dismissed Vee Kay's claims saying the song was in fact produced by PTK, not Oskid and that the latter had no hand in the production.

"How are you Vee? I am so at peace and so relieved to learn that God saved me from your hand long back. He saw this coming before I could see it. The way I looked flat out for Oskid to produce my song Amai Ndakanaka Amai? But he was nowhere to be found. I ended up working with PTK records and found him up to the task.

"Amai Ndakanaka Amai is my favourite childhood rhyme which I beefed in my own way from within me to motivate the girl child. I wouldn't be surprised if anyone had used the rhyme too as we all used to sing it. It's a catchy phrase. Look at the song again my sister and be honest with yourself.

"If you have anything like that then it would be just three words (the nursery rhyme). We are unique in our different ways. I compose all my songs and I have never accepted a song from anyone because I believe in inspiration from God. Please feel free to exhaust all channels. I am at peace. Thank you Jesus, I am free!" Fungisai wrote.

Oskid on the one end also dismissed Vee Kay's claims.

His manager, Hillary "Punchline" Mutake released a statement.

"In light of the statements made against our client Prince "Oskid" Tapfuma and the Oskid Production brand, over the past few days regarding the #NdakanakaScandal.

"Oskid is deeply disturbed by the calibre of these accusations, which are aimed to have a negative impact on his professionalism, code of conduct and business and brand identity. We further state that these accusations are littered with sensationalist distortions and misleading correlations.

"He was commissioned to produce a song by Vee Kay titled Ndakanaka, and did so as per her brief. Never at any point did Oskid or any member of the Oskid Production team leak the song, its body or share any creative concept of her song with Fungisai or any other artiste as suggested in the allegations made against Oskid and Oskid Production team.

"For the record, Fungisai only commissioned Oskid to produce three records for her just released Huya Uone Zvakuitika EP. Oskid Productions has only production credits to Huya Uone Zvakuitika, Vanondibatirana and Giroriya as per Fungisai's commission brief. Never did Oskid or any member of the Oskid Production team play any part in the writing or production of Fungisai's Amai Ndakanaka Amai record. As stated by Fungisai in her last press statement via her Facebook page, another production house under producer named PTK was tasked to produce the song in subject, a statement detaching Prince "Oskid" Tapfuma from these allegations.

"As for the Vee Kay's Ndakanaka record Oskid Production were commissioned to produce, Oskid and the Oskid Production team are in the process of completing the mastering of the Vee Kay's record as agreed," Mutake said.
