MORE than 30 musical groups will converge at White City Stadium in Bulawayo tomorrow to commemorate the 17th Anniversary of the death of former Vice President Dr Joshua Nkomo.

Dr Nkomo, one of the founding fathers of Zimbabwe's liberation struggle and national hero, died on July 1, 1999 and was buried at the National Heroes Acre in Harare.

Affectionately known as Father Zimbabwe or Chibwe Chitedza, Dr Nkomo remains in the hearts and minds of many Zimbabweans 17 years after his death.

The event is being organised by the Zanu PF Bulawayo provincial youth league and Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko is expected to be the guest of honour.

Zanu PF Bulawayo youth league political commissar Boniface Mutsure said preparations for the commemorations were at an advanced stage.

"We're celebrating his life with this show. As a province we saw it fit to remember the late VP for his sterling work to unite Zimbabwe,' said Mutsure.

"We've spoken to the artistes and they are also ready to perform at the show and we hope people come in their thousands to enjoy the night."

Mutsure said White City Stadium would reverberate to the sounds of Jeys Marabini, Sulumani Chimbetu, Jah Prayzah, Winky D, Clement Magwaza, Cal_Vin, Martin and Ndolwane Super Sounds and PoZee and among others.
