YAFM DJ to cycle 439km for charity

YAFM disc jockey (DJ) Fungai Mawanda will be cycling 439 km along Zimbabwe's mineral rich Great Dyke to raise awareness on the problems faced by the girl child living along this mineral belt.
Masvingo Mirror reported that Mawada (25) will cycle from the famous Chinhoyi Caves to the pulse of the Great Dyke, Zvishavane.
"My aim forward the challenges faced by young women in the Great Dyke like child marriages, exploitation, sexual health and reproductive issues," said Fungai who is popularly known as FuFu by her fans on radio. Stakeholders will be encouraged to establish recreational facilities along the mineral. The tour will open avenues for girls who have been forced to drop out of school to realise and make the most of their talents by offering them scholarships. They will also be education on sexual health to young girls and they will also be provided with personal health kits which I am buying with my own resources although there are some well-wishers who have promised to come on board during the tour," said FuFu.
The cycling will start from Chinhoyi to Chegutu where there is a lot of mining activity, to the mining town of Kadoma then Kwekwe home to Dendairy, Sable Chemicals and the now defunct ZiscoSteel.
From Kwekwe the tour proceeds to Gweru, dubbed the city of Progress to Shurugwi where chrome and platinum deposits are in abundance and finally to Zvishavane where probably the biggest platinum mine and asbestos deposits are found.
Geographically the Great Dyke is a linear feature that treads north-south through the centre of the country passing just west of Harare where gold, diamonds, chrome, platinum, emeralds, asbestos and many other minerals are found.
