Bulawayo - THE 2011 Unity Gala at the White City Stadium lived to its billing with many surprises for the capacity crowd that thronged the venue which proved to be too small.

The non-stop musical gala started on Saturday evening and ended on Sunday afternoon after an array of local musicians played different genres.

Media, Information and Publicity Minister Webster Shamu took to the stage for a surprise piece in collaboration with Amos Mahendere.

The people came in their numbers and the 3 000 capacity stadium was filled to capacity.

Thousands of people were still making their way into the stadium way before midnight as they celebrated the Unity Accord between the liberation parties Zanu-PF and PF-Zapu signed on December 22 in 1987.

This year's gala brought Zimbabwe's crème de la crème from all music genres.

The City of Kings and Queens saw performances from top musicians such as Pastor and Amai Charamba, Kireni Zulu, Mahendere Brothers, Andy Brown and some urban groovers.

Organisers only allowed Kireni Zulu to play one song, but he left the crowd asking for more.

Andy Brown, featuring his long time friend Potato, also took people to the good old days with songs such as Mapurisa.

Quite a number of musicians played overnight and left the stage for their counterparts who took over until yesterday afternoon.
